Silk-weaving history

The development of sericulture in the Republic of Uzbekistan has a long history. There is an information which highlights that the practice of silkworm breeding and spinning of silk existed 4000 years ago in the south of Uzbekistan, in the Fergana Valley, as well as in the sources of the Zarafshan River. In the 1990s, the production of live cocoons in Uzbekistan was very high and reached 36,000 tons. Today Uzbekistan is the third largest producer of silk fibers in the world after China and India.
